Hi! I’m Monica Russell. As a vegan chef I make it easy for everyone to eat delicious, cultural, soulful plant based foods that capture the scents and flavors you’ve grown to love. Vegan and vegetarian foods are increasingly enjoyed by people all over, and you don’t have to go out to a restaurant to experience it. I create vegan comfort food cooked in your home!
Being in the kitchen is the easiest, most creative and transformative place I know. My menus are designed to open your mind to the amazing variety flavors and textures that can be created without animal products and the health benefits that brings. I believe if you open your mind to what it can offer you’ll open your mouth wider than you would imagine. Every person’s preferences are unique and I cater to your individual taste buds. You don’t have to worry about what goes into your food or any hidden ingredients.

Why did you become vegan?
I became vegan due to my compassion for animals.
Where did you learn to cook?
I learned to cook from many people: My childhood babysitter had 9 grown children. She was very familiar in a kitchen. Thank you Agnes Williams. My favorite relative would plop me down on her kitchen counter in Mount Vernon to keep an eye on me while she prepared wonderful meals with elegance and grace. I watched her closely! She is my role model for everything household. Thank you Edna Wiggan. My mother, of course had a few time-honored Jamaican specialties. And I observed various other relatives.
What do you love about cooking?
I love cooking because it completes me. I have a love affair with food.
What’s your favorite dish?
I don’t have a favorite dish. My pleasure is best satisfied by savory flavors and creamy and cheesy things. We have better vegan cheese these days.
What music do you like when cooking?
So glad you asked this question. Music helps my cooking. R&B spiced with contemporary jazz and a little hip hop and rap when I’m cooking at home. Oh, and I can cook and dance at the same time, but carefully and only at home 🙂
